The Bolo Tie Collective takes pride in being a community for writers and creatives at MacEwan University. We are a SAMU student club whose mission is two-fold: to bridge the gap between the students of the English, Communication Studies, and Arts and Cultural Management departments of MacEwan University and to foster a community where creative writers and editors can hone their skills and gain valuable industry experience. The heart of the club, our founders, published the first Bolo Tie Collective Anthology in 2015.
We call ourselves a community because we strive to be a meeting point for all creative writers and editors at MacEwan. We want to create a space where creatives can network, make connections and life-long friends and develop new skills.

The Bolo Tie Collective Anthology
Since 2015, The Bolo Tie Collective Anthology has embodied the power that lies in art and the beautiful things that can be achieved when a community works together with a united goal. The anthology unites a collection of student written, edited, illustrated and designed creative work. Each edition reflects the unique stories, visions and perspectives of the generation that put it together.
We publish a new anthology yearly, opening up many opportunities for students to break into the publishing industry. Many of our authors have gone on to achieve further publishing success.

Our Events
The Bolo Tie Collective hosts multiple events throughout the Fall and Winter semesters in the form of workshops, open mic nights, book sales and book launches. We focus on creating experiences that build the confidence and skills of student writers while allowing them to make connections with their peers.
Commonly, you’ll see us organizing two types of workshops: peer editing workshops and guest speaker workshops. Our peer editing workshops let students get valuable feedback on their work. For our guest speaker workshops, we invite instructors, students and established figures in the literary world to guide workshops designed to give students an edge in the publishing industry.
Our open mic night, Bolo Live!, creates a space for students to share their writing, try out new ideas and practice their spoken word performance skills in front of a friendly crowd.
The Bolo Tie Collective Anthology Book Launch happens once a year to celebrate the release of a new anthology. Our launches are always buzzing with a very special energy where many attendees are celebrating their first official publication.
