October’s prompt is heart rot. When fungi enter a tree through wounds in the bark, they rot the heartwood—the backbone of a tree. What does the process feel like? Where does heart rot appear in other aspects of life?
Submission deadline: November 1, 2026

• Open to MacEwan students and alumni, though students will be prioritized
• Submissions must be in the form of blog posts related to the monthly prompts or book reviews
• Please note that this is an unpaid opportunity, and a limited number of students per submission type will be contacted for their work to be posted

• Advisory:
  • Content must be original and not previously published
  • Only completed submissions will be considered
  • All works will be edited by the executive team
  • Discriminatory content and unwarranted hate, bigotry, and shaming will not be accepted
  • Profanity, gore, and sexual content is acceptable but must be used in an appropriate, informational, or otherwise constructive manner

• Blog Post Submissions
  • Word count: 150-1000
  • Use monthly prompt for guidance
  • All forms of poetry or prose will be considered (eg. essays, poems, fictional stories, etc.)
  • Submit blog posts via this Google Form
• Book Review Submissions
  • Word count: 500-1200
  • Submit book reviews via this Google Form

  • Title
  • Word count
